People’s Leasing & Sri Lanka Transport Board Partner to Ensure Harassment-Free Public Transport for Women and Children

Demonstrating the continued commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and social well-being, People’s Leasing & Finance PLC has partnered with the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to officially launch a nationwide public awareness sticker campaign to combat harassment, abuse, and violence, especially against women and children, across the country’s public transport network.

In a major step forward for public transit security, this commuter safety initiative was officially launched at the SLTB Central Bus Terminal in Pettah, Colombo recently. Executed under the joint direction of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, the project assures a safer environment for daily bus commuters.

The milestone event was graced by honourable parliamentary representatives Mrs. Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Mrs. Samanmali Gunasinghe, and Ms. Ambika Samuel, along with representatives from the Sri Lanka Transport Board and People’s Leasing & Finance PLC.

In this initiative, People’s Leasing provided financial assistance for the deployment of awareness stickers across SLTB buses nationwide. With three stickers strategically placed within each bus, the campaign ensures maximum visibility in Sinhala, English and Tamil languages. Operating from urban, suburban, and rural depots across all nine provinces, the wide-reaching bus fleet is expected to connect with over 3 million daily commuters, delivering critical safety information to passengers nationwide.

The campaign was carried out under the theme ‘Be vigilant, stand against harassment, and speak up,’ encouraging everyone to prevent, and report misconduct.  This social impact initiative empowers bus passengers with helpline numbers and reporting guidance as the campaign raised awareness of the Police Children and Women Bureau Hotline 109, Women Helpline 1938, Children Helpline 1929, National Transport Commission Hotline 1955, and SLTB Hotline1958.

By fostering mutual respect and raising public awareness, the company actively contributes to creating a safer, more secure transit environment for daily commuters. Through this initiative, People’s Leasing reaffirms its commitment to corporate social responsibility by supporting impactful community initiatives.
